Successes in Switzerland

1) Successful commissioning of the Glarey hydropower plant

In February 2024, GUGLER Water Turbines GmbH successfully commissioned the two (2) Francis turbines with all the associated electromechanical equipment for the new Glarey hydropower plant. The new power plant of Romande Energie SA with an installed capacity of 2.3 MW in the city of  Bex will now produce around 7.5 GWh of green electricity annually. The two horizontal Francis turbines were designed for an expansion water volume of 5.25 m³/s and 1.8 m³/s respectively.

2) New order from Switzerland for HPP Turbach

GUGLER Water Turbines GmbH has been awarded the contract for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of one (1) six-nozzle vertical Pelton turbine with spherical valve, inlet pipe, hydromechanical governor, generator and its auxiliary equipment for the Turbach hydropower plant.

Between summer 2024 and 2026, Kraftwerk Turbach AG, a partnership between BKW and green electricity producer aventron, will build the new small hydropower plant in Gstaad, Switzerland. It will produce around 7.3 gigawatt hours of renewable electricity per year.

The power plant uses the water of the Turbach river with a gross gradient of around 230 meters. The Pelton turbine with an installed capacity of 2.5 megawatts produces electricity for around 1,400 four-person households. The power plant is 55 percent owned by BKW and 45 percent by aventron.
